As your children move through the school it is important that they develop their own positive learning habits ready for their secondary education however there are many ways you can continue to support your childs learning.
How can you support your child’s learning?
Each week your child will have the following maths, reading and spelling homework to complete:
- TTRockstars ~ We ask that the children spend 10 minutes on TTRocktars twice a week at home. This will help develop their quick recall of multiplication facts which are ensential.
- Please encourage your child to read regularly at home (at least four times per week) and sign their Home-School Contact Book to acknowledge this (these books are checked by an adult every Monday).
- Spelling Homework: Your child has a ‘Spelling Shed’ account where they can practise ‘Common Exception Words’ which are statutory words that must be learnt for your child to reach the expected standard in writing at the end of Year 6. Children will also be set spellings on ‘Spelling Shed’ linked to spelling patterns practised in school. Please encourage your child to access Spelling Shed for 10 minutes twice weekly.
Maths Passports:
If your child has a Maths Passport target, it is imperative that they practise their targets at home as these mental maths skills will support them with all areas of maths in school and for their transition to secondary school. Targets, guidance sheets and links to online games can be found on the school website. Please note that we aim for children to have completed the last of the Maths Passports, Atlantis, by the end of Year 5.
